The fruit ripens to a bright, light yellow and begins to exude a light, tropical aroma. Sweet and mild, the flavor has been compared to plums, grapes, pineapple and pear, with notes of lemon and tropical breezes.



    Tart varieties typically have narrowly spaced ribs, while sweet varieties tend to have thick, fleshy ribs. The taste between the two are hardly distinguishable, as the tart variety still has some sweetness. Add to fruit salads or use for tarts, preserves and chutney. Try serving fish on a bed of starfruit to subtly impart fruity flavors to the finished dish, and then topping it with a Starfruit salsa.
