Chinese Leeks can easily be distinguished from common leeks by their size and flavor. Grown for use primarily as an onion, they are small and slender. Resembling green onions, they have thicker leaves and a milder flavor.
Usually only the white part of the vegetable is used although the dark green outer leaves may be used as a garnish. Add to stir-fry, soups, stews or anywhere a little onion flavor is needed.
