The exotic Pepino Melon can have a skin color of yellow golden streaked with bright shades of purple or a solid, darker purple. Both have the same wonderfully distinctive flavor profile.
The flesh of the Pepino is quite fragrant with a taste that combines the flavors of cantaloupe, honeydew and just a hint of cucumber. They are often enjoyed in fruit salads or simply served individually topped with a sprinkling of fresh lemon or lime juice. Sometimes known as mellowfruit, bush melon or treemelon; the Pepino once native only to Peru is now produced in New Zealand and Equador.
