Jujubes are a fruit that is especially praised in Asia. Native to China, they are generally about 1 ½ inches in diameter and pear shaped, looking similar to an apple. They vary in color, size and shape and range from a yellowish-green to a kelly green, either the shape of an egg or round and some are as small as an olive or the size of a date. Also known as Chinese Dates. Jujubes offer a very unique flavor, not comparable to other fruits. They are usually eaten raw after they’ve ripened, but can also be used in desserts and baked goods. They are also good dried and used in place of raisins, dried figs or candied.
