Flamingo Pears are an early season pear variety fromt he Southern Hemisphere first developed in South Africa and now grown with substantial commercial volume in Chile. It is a cross between a Bon Rouge and a Forelle pear.
The variety has an attractive ruby red blush over a green/yellow skin coloring; the juicy sweet white interior fruit has a crisp-firm texture. Flamingo Pears are especially beautiful in salads because of their colorful skin shade. These pears are also ideal for baking or eating raw with cheese
